Product design is a way to transform simple ideas into tangible products that aim to improve everyday life. This combines design, science, technology and art to create something innovative and sustainable. In this course, you will learn to design a series of simple products using a professional CAD software, Fusion 360.
These models will be created from a 3D printing perspective – an evolving technology that is used to build complex parts instantly. In the second phase of the course you will be challenged to come up with an imaginative product through ideation, concept generation and CAD modelling. Your final product will then be optimized for 3D printing in terms of material use, time and quality.
TOPICS & PROJECTS
3D Visualization
Start thinking in 3D and visualize 3D geometries using Fusion 360.
Concept Generation
Get introduced to ideation techniques like brainstorming and sketching.
Parametric Modelling
Learn several CAD tools and features to create a series of products.
Surface Modelling
Use the form tool to sculpt and modify organic shapes.
Assembly Design
Create products that have multiple components and joints.
CAD Inspection
Explore tools to measure dimensions and perform section analysis.
Product Rendering
Choose materials and environments to render images of your product.
Slice your products to simulate and preview the printing process.
Student Project
Devansh (class 10) designed a modular planter, made of multiple permuto-hedrons. These parts interlock in a 3D grid, and can be stacked on top of each other.
Student Project
Class 6 student designed lamp-shade by 3D modelling the product using spline, revolve, intersect and combine features.
